Richard Laugesen

Hi from Canberra, you can reach me at richard@laugesen.com.au and on BlueSky.

Research

My research generally focuses on hydrological modelling for decision support. Around the intersections of computational hydrology, decision theory, and water resource management. I am a doctoral researcher at University of Adelaide and former visiting fellow at Australian National University. Please reach out if you are interested in collaborating, I'm especially interested in working with researchers in Southeast Asia. An out of date ORCID.

Consulting

Please approach my engineering consultancy at Pintar Projects to discuss any predictive systems or decision science support you may need. Building systems and data-feeds to support operational decisions gets our attention.

Bureau of Meteorology

I lead the Hydrological Models team. We are a group researchers leading innovation in hydrologic science and land-surface modelling. Our focus is continental-scale forecasts and our goal is Bureau customer impact. Please contact me at richard.laugesen@bom.gov.au regarding any Bureau or United Nations projects I am involved in.

Teaching

I occasionally teach science at a local high school and love it. Influencing tomorrows leaders and rebels is the best way I know to tackle things like disinformation and the climate emergency.

Advocacy

Globally, bleeding disorders are underdiagnosed, have limited access to treatment, and cause substantial health, social, and economic impacts. I've been part of the ACT committee of Haemophilia Foundation Australia for a number of years and am happy to chat if you want to know more.
